RedCity Roar & Alexandra Hills SHS Partner to Work Towards Additional Indoor Courts in Redlands
Media Release — November 2025
Official announcement from RedCity Roar Basketball Association
RedCity Roar Basketball Association & Alexandra Hills State High School have formalised a landmark partnership that will see them work together in conjunction with the Department of Education Queensland to work towards the planning and delivery of three new high-quality courts onto the school grounds.
The school currently has one indoor court & three undercover outdoor courts on site. The proposal would be to utilise the space where the current outdoor courts are located & enclose them & upgrade the internal features to create an additional three high-quality indoor courts, plus changerooms, meeting rooms & storage facilities. This would make the Alex Hills indoor facility the largest indoor facility within Redlands with four courts.
RedCity General Manager Chris Angus described how this partnership could be a game changer for the association if the project is delivered.
“With the shortage of high-quality indoor basketball courts across not only Redland City, but across Queensland, we as an Association can no longer achieve significant growth beyond what we currently have & the demand is so high within our sport that most of our junior clubs have extensive waiting lists & we can not really introduce any additional competitions or programs to accommodate the demand for those within Redlands.” Mr Angus said.
“Having three new high-quality courts that we could utilise for our competitions & programs, plus our clubs in that catchment could utilise & grow into would be a much-welcomed step towards easing the pressure on court demand & we would fill the courts right now, let alone once the project is completed down the track.” he continued.
“We are grateful to Basketball Queensland for assisting us in this process through their facilities funding program to allow us to start communications with the school around this partnership & the dream of the additional courts on their site. I would also like to thank the team at Alexandra Hills State High School for being so open about the possibilities of working together towards the planning, advocacy and ultimate delivery of this project. This partnership is the first major milestone towards seeing these courts completed.”
Alexandra Hills SHS will also benefit greatly from the proposed expansion project once it is completed. Through increased revenue opportunities, better facilities for the Basketball Academy, improved change rooms for indoor sports as well as the Rugby fields, opportunities for whole-school assemblies, hosting school events, inter-school competitions, plus additional meeting & staff rooms.
The next milestone step for this project will be outsourcing a sporting facilities consultancy firm to undertake the necessary feasibility studies, cost modelling and initial design work for the facility expansion. This will be a joint venture between the Association & the school & will be jointly funded.
With that process commencing in the coming months, once completed, it will create the basis for major advocacy amongst all levels of government to fund the completion of the indoor facility sooner rather than later.
It is hoped that through this partnership and with RedCity working with both the school and the Department of Education on this going forward, that a long-term shared use agreement can be reached to ensure that RedCity can be using this new facility well into the future.
Further updates on the progress of this project will be communicated as they happen.
