The number of U18, U20 and YDL teams competing on a Tuesday have doubled from last season putting an enormous strain on resources. The number referees are required and the number of courts available are pain points for the association right now. The Tuesday fixture will affect rep teams and club teams ability to train. Teams and clubs have had to make some adjustments searching and securing alternative venues which can hopefully resolve the problem in the short term. The extra games will put an added load on our referees, many of which also enjoy playing the game.
"It would be nice to have our referees play a game and referee another but the extra games will create a greater load for our young referees. Some will enjoy the extra games but I fear we could burn them out if we can not develop or find more refs", said GM Peter Pollock.
"Alex Maier and Lima Lau Lau have done an amazing job to get us up and running, but we will need more referees, so don't be surprised if you see some unfamiliar faces on the end of the whistle, myself included."
