QSL Draw Released!

Basketball Queensland released the draw for it first Queensland State League season yesterday. The Redcity Roar will have five  home games for its inaugural QSL season. All games are Saturday evenings at the “Den”, The Paul Bancroft Centre at Cleveland District State High School. Games are at 4.00pm (Div 2 Men), 6.00pm (Carol Fox & Co RedCity Roar women) and the RedCity Roar Div 1 men  at 8.00pm.

Opening night at the “Den” will feature the Northside Wizards for the men’s and women’s division 1 teams, while the division 2 men will host the Gold Coast Rollers

We expect the number of tickets will be restricted to less than half of the venue capacity.  Once our Covidsafe seating plan has been confirmed with the Venue Manager at the Paul Bancroft Centre  we will be able to configure the pricing scheme and create the link. We expect this to be up by next week.




RedCity Roar has projected its restart from the week starting Monday the 13th of July for all its programs and competitions. This includes our Capalaba Central Roar Ready Schools, CUBS, Junior and Senior competitions. This is the first week of term 3 (subject to COVID-19 restrictions being lifted as planned).

For Juniors (Under 10’s through to Under 21’s) – The season will be played out for the remaining 11 weeks of our interrupted season (ending 16th of October). If you registered for the Summer season you will not need to register again. From the 17th of October through to the 5th of December we will be extending competition – more details to come! Fees will be passed onto members for those games which will come out in due course.

 Please refer directly to your club for training scheduling and information.

 BQ has extended the BQ registration expiry date by 120 days for our existing members who were registered as of the 13th March 2020 (when all basketball activity was suspended).

This means any members whose registration was due to expire over the past few months is still active, so you can enjoy a full years’ registration with BQ. This will also apply to the RedCity roar membership as well.

U8 CUBS program – Will restart on Wednesday the 15th of July 4-5pm at PCYC with games starting 8.00am Saturday 18th July for the 6 & 7 yr olds. CUBS registration is per school term. A discounted term fee will be applied for term 3 due to the suspension of the competition in term 1.

Capalaba Shopping Centre Roar Ready Schools Program to resume the term 1 program started at Victoria Point State School and will be offering programs through terms 3 and 4 to schools.

For Seniors – New teams will be able to nominate for the season from Monday 29th June on the RedCity Roar website homepage. Existing teams will not need to nominate, however please advise if your team will not be returning. The season will pay through to the end of November.

Fixtures Hopeful to Return at Stage 3!

In the Road Map to Recovery  stage 3 is slated for July 10 subject to review.

For senior games this would mean a return to fixtures on July 12 for mixed social, July 14 for senior women and U21 and July 16 for senior men.

For junior we are hoping for a resumption of  games on the first week back at school on the Friday 18th and Saturday 19th of July.

This will depend of course an whether full contact is allowed.

We need BO (Biosafety Officers)!

As we return to activities we will need to comply with the requirements for  restrictions  for the return full contact games.

Part of that process will be having Biosafety Officers to ensure we provide a safe environment for our activities  for rep team trainings, our fixtures and club trainings.

Covid Update!


Getting closer!

Lifting of restrictions has been brought forward from June 12 to 12.00 noon today!

We are hopeful we can return to the courts very soon.

We are waiting on further clarification through Basketball Queensland’s discussions with the Queensland Government and our venue owners as to the number of participants allowed per venue and per court.

When we know where the goal posts are, we will be ready to go with compliance, to ensure the safety of our members and their families.

What to expect:

  • Limited numbers per court or venue (social distancing)
  • Non contact activities only
  • Must bring own basketball and sanitize ball and hands on entry and exit
  • Separate entry and exit points for venues/courts
  • No entry if unwell
  • Sign in/sign out
  • Use of amenities restricted
  • A Bio Security Officer to ensure compliance
  • Change over period between activities

Sunday Casual Shooting PCYC

Fixtures are still suspended at this point, however the RedCity Roar management committee is reviewing the situation, based on information received recently, from Redlands City Council.

In the meantime, the RedCity Roar can open its doors for casual shooting!

Restrictions apply – 4 shooters per half court.
Cost is $5 per 50min (plus booking fee)
Sessions start on the hour, every hour, and finish at ten minutes before the hour, to allow for a change over.

Shooters must bring their own basketball and towel and must wash hands thoroughly on entering and leaving in the building in the trough in the BBQ area. Alternatively shooters can bring their own sanitizer.

Public Meeting for the Alex Hills Raiders!

The RedCity Roar will be holding a public meeting to form an action group to get the next foundation club, the “Alexandra Hills Raiders Basketball Club” formerly established as an entity to affiliate with the RedCity Roar. The Raiders  will compete against our other affiliated foundation clubs, the Capalaba Wildcats, Bayside Basketball,  the Wellington Point Kings and teams representing Victoria Point/Redland Bay, and Bayview/Thornlands. The RedCity Roar plans to have  all six clubs affiliated by mid year.

The Raiders club will be accepting teams for the 2020 Summer season and will be based at Alexandra Hills State High School. The club will draw from players the high school, Hilliard State School, St Anthony’s Catholic Primary School and Vienna Woods State School.

The club will be looking for community minded leaders that are connected to the Alex Hill area, to help get the process started.  RedCity Roar staff and management will be available to offer support and guidance along with the committee members from the other three foundation clubs.

New Season Starts Soon!

Welcome to 2020! Please see below some information and updates about our RedCity Roar competitions.

All players (Cubs, Juniors and Seniors) new and old will need to register for this season – Summer 2020.

Start Dates

Juniors  – The new season will commence on Tuesday 28th January with our U21 men. Our U16 U18 & U21 women competitions begin on Friday 31st January and U10, U12 & U14 on Saturday 1st February. Junior competitions  will begin with a 4-week grading period followed by 12 weeks of competitive rounds and then semi finals and grand final. (Grand final week 16th – 20th June)

Seniors – The new season will commence on Tuesday 28th January for women and Thursday 30th January for men.

Cubs (4 to 7 year olds)

For 4 and 5 year old Cubs,  the program is training only Wednesdays 4.00pm – 5.00pm at Redlands PCYC starts 29th January!

For 6 and 7 year old Cubs,  the program includes training as above plus games on Saturday mornings at 8.00am.

All new Cubs receive a free basketball. Programs are run each term.

Junior Sign on Days (Cubs & U10 to U21)

We have three ‘Sign on days’ for juniors planned with the first taking place 9am-12pm on Saturday 18th January,  at the Capalaba Central shopping centre. The sign on days are an opportunity for the following…

– For new and existing members to join one of our three existing clubs. They are the Bayside Basketball who train at Cleveland DSHS, Cleveland, Capalaba Wildcats who train at the Redlands PCYC Capalaba, and Wellington Point Kings who train at Redlands College, Wellington Point.

– For existing members to stay with their current teams for the upcoming competition and represent a location. These teams will be managed by RedCity Roar until new clubs are formed. Those locations will  become clubs and are located at following locations Alexandra Hills  Club (will be based at Alexandra Hills SHS club forming soon) , Redland Bay/Victoria Point Club (Training base – TBC) and Bayview/Thornlands Club (Training base – TBC).

*Existing Members Please Note* – If you want to stay with the team you played with last year,  contact your coach and find out which location/club will best suit the team.

Juniors: Registration fees will be approximately $120 per person which covers the BQ insurance and RedCity administration fee (*only payable if current registration has expired or if a new member). Fees are calculated on an 18 week season at $12.50 (*girls $6.25) per game and $4 a week training fee payable to either your club or the RedCity Roar if you do not belong to one of the three established clubs. There will also be a club administration fee set by each club, so please check with the club at sign on.

Seniors: Registration fees will be approximately $120 per person which covers the BQ insurance and RedCity administration fee (*only payable if current registration has expired or if a new member). A nomination fee of $100 is payable for each new team to enter. Existing team nominations will carry over from last year unless team has forfeited. Game Fees are paid per game at $85.00 (*women $42.50) per team before the game by eftpos only! NO CASH PAYMENTS!



  1.  If I am a current member will I need to pay the registration fee for membership for this season?  A. No, if you have paid your registration fee recently you are a member for 365 days from time of payment and will be covered by insurance until that period ends. You will be sent a renewal email by the SportsTG system prior to the expiry date.
  2. We live at Redland Bay but there is no established club based here yet, how does my child join? A. At the junior sign on days there will be six clubs you can sign up to in SportsTG. At Sign- on three desks will be manned by the our established clubs Bayside Basketball(Cleveland), Capalaba Wildcats and Wellington Point Kings. There will be three other desks you can sign up to and they will be managed by the RedCity Roar until we have clubs established in those areas.
  3. If  we live in Wellington Point does that mean my child  has to play for the Wellington Point Kings? A. No, you can play where ever you want, however we are mindful that we need to build a healthy competitive club structure and would encourage people to join teams/locations closest to them.
  4. My child is new to basketball how do I register and pay? A. You can register on the links provided on this page and follow instructions.
  5. Can I set up a payment plan? A. Yes, the clubs have payment plan arrangements but  preferred payment up front. Any RedCity Roar administered teams/locations  can use our EZYPAY system. Best to ask  the clubs on sign on day or contact them directly if they have that facility or join a RedCity Roar administered club at Alexandra Hills, Victoria Point/Redland Bay or Bayview/Thornlands.

2020 U12 & U14 Representative Preparations Begin!

RedCity Roar Rep Preparations for under 12 and under 14 boys and girls begin for 2020 season.

The sessions will be open to players in our U11 & U13 competitions. Players will be introduced to the skills and concepts needed to play at the next level. This the second step in a pathway  to representing Queensland and Australia.

The sessions will be at Redlands PCYC on Sunday 20th & 27th of October and 3rd November

U12 B Court 1 – 1.30pm- 3.00pm Sun 20th & 27th Oct, 3rd Nov
U12 G Court 2 – 1.30pm- 3.00pm Sun 20th & 27th Oct, 3rd Nov
U14 B Court 1 – 3.00pm- 4.30pm Sun 20th & 27th Oct, 3rd Nov
U14 G Court 2 – 3.00pm- 4.30pm Sun 20th & 27th Oct, 3rd Nov

Cost – $10 per session pay on the day. Players must attend two of the three sessions. Arrangements are in place for those who can not attend Sunday sessions!
